Astral recognises exceptional performance at Annual Awards function

Astral Foods Limited (Astral), leading Southern African integrated poultry producer, recently recognised suppliers and employees at its annual awards ceremony for achieving excellence across various categories. The awards this year were particularly pertinent, given that Astral recently reported a record performance for the year ended 30 September 2015.

Held at the Protea Hotel, Midrand on 26 November 2015, the event featured guest speaker, former Springbok coach Nick Mallett, who spoke on the importance of sustaining top-class performance after achieving success, and what it takes to keep on winning despite the odds – an apt topic for Astral, which has been no stranger to overcoming adversity in recent years.

“We are delighted to have been able to honour our own star performers, as well as our suppliers, both of which are essential to Astral’s ability to continue thriving in today’s challenging economic environment. It takes dedication, passion and tenacity, which is what we value in our own people, as well as our key business partners,” said Chris Schutte, CEO of Astral.

Awards were presented across Astral’s Poultry and Feed operations, based on divisional criteria, and included categories such as “Service Provider of the Year” and “Achiever of the Year”. (A full list of the awards and the winners is provided.)

Meadow Feeds awarded the “Service Provider of the Year” award to creative design agency, Ahoy, for their assistance with the development of the new logo and branding for Meadow Feeds, and their design of the new range of adverts and marketing material for the “Trust” campaign.

The Poultry Division recognised BT Enterprises, which supplies world-class processing equipment to the company’s abattoirs. The award, presented by the Poultry operation, was based on the company’s excellent pre- and post-sales service and the outstanding training that they provide.

CAL Labs also recognised Microsep (Pty) Ltd who as the agents for Waters, a worldwide leading company that supplies ultra-performance liquid chromatography instruments, and VICAM, a leader in break-through mycotoxin testing solutions.

Moreover, awards were made by Chris Schutte, including the “CEO Achiever of the Year”, awarded to Astral’s Group Credit Manager, Braam Spies, in recognition of his credit management under trying economic circumstances, and the “CEO Extra Mile” award, which went to Theo van Deventer, CEO of Astral’s medical aid broker, iPlan.

“I would like to again congratulate all our nominees and winners for their outstanding effort. Astral is proud to recognise and reward such examples of excellence, which form the backbone of our brand and reputation,” concludes Chris Schutte.
