Meadow Feeds - Provimi

Meadow Feeds signed a new "Ruminant" Technical Service Agreement with Provimi. The agreement was signed in Rotterdam on 21 June 2011 and further extends the good relationship that already exists between these two heavy-weights in the animal feed industry. The Provimi Group, who is a global player in animal nutrition, has over 450 scientists working to develop innovative feed solutions. Their products and services are used in over 40 million tons of feed, worldwide.

The agreement will see ruminant nutrition experts from Provimi paying numerous visits to South Africa. They will interact with Nutritionists and Technical Advisors at Meadow Feeds, with a strong focus on sharing the latest technological advances in ruminant nutrition and developing strategies to apply on-farm, to the ultimate benefit of Meadow Feeds' customers. Special emphasis will be placed on technology to enhance production efficiency and improve environmental impact of animal production enterprises. Dr Pieter Henning, newly-appointed Technical Executive: Ruminants at Meadow Feeds, and Ir Gijsbert van Winkoop, Global Species Group Technical Director Ruminants at Provimi, are currently designing a series of interactive work-sessions to optimize technology transfer. This will form part of exciting innovations planned at Meadow Feeds.

The recently announced acquisition of Provimi by Cargill is yet another exciting development. Cargill has a global team of more than 1,300 specialists in research, development, applications, technical services and intellectual property. Of special interest is their Animal Nutrition Innovation Campus located in Elk River, Minnesota (USA). This huge complex with its extensive laboratories is equipped to accurately measure animal responses to nutrients and to develop creative metabolic models used to optimize the efficiency of nutrient utilization.
